Welcome to Protec-U. Protec-U is a personal safety and emergency response mobile application developed and operated by Edge Soft Consulting ("we," "our," or "us"), a proprietorship owned by Samiran Ghosh, registered under GST (GSTIN: 29ALLPG3016A1ZL) and located at Flat D226, Golden Corner Apartments, 10/2B, Ambalipura, Sarjapur Main Road, Bellandur, Bengaluru Urban, Karnataka — 560103, India.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you download and use the Protec-U Android application. By installing or using Protec-U, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not install or use the application.
To deliver its core safety services, Protec-U collects the following categories of information:
Full name and mobile number (used for account creation and emergency contact identification)
Email address (for account recovery and service communications)
Emergency contact details — names and phone numbers of trusted persons you designate
User profile information such as profile photo (optional)
Precise GPS location, collected in real time when you activate an Emergency Alert or enable live location sharing.
Location data is shared with your pre-configured emergency contacts during active Emergency Alert sessions and is not retained beyond the defined session window.
When the Panic Audio Recording feature is activated during an Emergency Alert, the application records ambient audio through the device microphone.
Audio recordings are collected only with your explicit consent and are securely stored for up to seven (7) days from the date of creation, after which they are automatically deleted.
Users may manually delete recordings earlier through the application, in which case the recordings are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
We do not continuously record audio in the background without your knowledge or active consent.
Device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers
App version, crash logs, and performance diagnostics
Network connection status and IP address
Feature usage patterns and in-app interactions (aggregated and anonymised where possible)
Emergency Alert event logs (timestamps, trigger method, response time) retained for service improvement
Frequency and duration of live location sharing sessions
Protec-U requests the following Android device permissions. Each permission is essential to a specific safety feature:
Precise Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION): Required for real-time location sharing with emergency contacts during EMERGENCY ALERT events.
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Required for the Panic Audio Recording feature. Only activated upon your explicit action.
SMS (SEND_SMS): Required to send automated emergency SMS Alerts with location links to your emergency contacts.
Contacts (READ_CONTACTS): Required (optionally) to help you select emergency contacts from your phone book.
Internet (INTERNET): Required for real-time communication, Emergency Alerts, live location sharing, audio uploads, and cloud-based safety services.
You may revoke any permission at any time through your Android device settings. Revoking certain permissions will disable specific features but will not affect your ability to use other parts of the app.
We use the information we collect solely to provide, maintain, and improve Protec-U's safety services:
Triggering and delivering EMERGENCY Alert to your emergency contacts with your real-time location
Enabling live location sharing with your designated trusted contacts
Storing audio recordings generated during Emergency Alerts for up to seven (7) days for safety and evidentiary purposes, after which they are automatically deleted.
Managing your account, emergency contacts, and app preferences.
Analysing aggregated usage data to improve response times and feature effectiveness
Diagnosing technical issues, crashes, and performance problems
Communicating service updates, safety tips, and policy changes to you
Complying with applicable Indian laws and regulatory requirements
Initiating automated emergency voice calls to designated emergency contacts during an active Emergency Alert.
Providing Safety Check-In reminders and automated escalation into an Emergency Alert when a user fails to respond within the configured timeframe.
Supporting Connect and Nudge features between participating users and trusted contacts.
Additional Safety Features
Protec-U may provide Safety Check-In, Connect, and Nudge features to facilitate communication between users and their trusted contacts.
Safety Check-In allows users to schedule reminders to confirm their safety status. Failure to respond may result in an automated Emergency Alert.
Connect enables communication between participating registered users.
Nudge allows users to send non-emergency safety prompts and acknowledgements to trusted contacts.
We do not use your personal information for advertising profiling, sale to data brokers, or any purpose unrelated to your personal safety and the operation of Protec-U.
We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:
During an active EMERGENCY Alert event, your name, live location, and tracking link are shared with the emergency contacts you have designated within the app. This is the core purpose of the service and occurs only upon your action (or an automated trigger you have configured). Protec-U may also initiate automated emergency voice calls to designated emergency contacts through approved telecommunication service providers.
We engage trusted third-party service providers to support app infrastructure and operations, including cloud hosting, SMS gateway services, and analytics. These providers access your data only as necessary to perform services on our behalf and are contractually bound to protect it.
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or a lawful request from Indian government or law enforcement authorities, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others.
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of Edge Soft Consulting's assets, your data may be transferred to the successor entity. We will notify you of any such change via the app or email.
Account information is retained for as long as your account remains active, and for a reasonable period thereafter to fulfil legal obligations
Live location data shared during EMERGENCY Alert events is retained only for the duration of the active emergency session.
Panic audio recordings are stored for up to seven (7) days from creation and are automatically deleted thereafter. Users may manually delete recordings earlier through the application.
Aggregated and anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely for service improvement purposes
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 8)
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including:
Encryption in Transit: Data transmitted between the Protec-U application and Company servers is protected using HTTPS and TLS security protocols.
Access controls limiting data access to authorised personnel only.
Industry-standard administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
Regular security assessments and vulnerability testing
While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no system is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong password, keep the app updated, and notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account.
As a user of Protec-U, you have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
Withdrawal of Consent: Withdraw consent for specific data processing activities (e.g., audio recording and location sharing) at any time via device settings or app settings
Portability: Request a copy of your data in a commonly used machine-readable format
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details provided in Section 11. We will respond to verifiable requests within 30 days.
Protec-U is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete such information.
Users between the ages of 13 and 18 should use Protec-U only with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian.
Protec-U may integrate with or link to third-party services (such as mapping services for location display). These third-party services have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their data practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you interact with through the app.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will notify you through a prominent notice within the app or via email prior to the changes taking effect. The updated policy will be accessible within the app.
Your continued use of Protec-U after the effective date of any updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011. Any disputes relating to this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in New Delhi, India.
